Victor Previn
Chairman
Victor Previn is a professional engineer and one of the original founders of Ellex. His career spans more than 25 years in the laser industry. Mr. Previn was responsible for developing and commercializing the technology platform that is now the core of Ellex’s current production. He has spent more than 15 years in the ophthalmic laser industry travelling widely throughout Asia, Europe and the USA in a business development capacity.
Mr. Previn held the position of Managing Director from 2003 to 2005. In July of 2005, Mr. Previn was elected Chairman of the Ellex board of directors.
Alex Sundich
Non-Executive Director
Alexander Sundich is currently Chief Operating Officer of Mariner Financial Limited, an ASX listed company. Prior to this position he was Chief Financial Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Record Investments Limited. During his 15-year career as an investment banker Mr. Sundich was involved in mergers, acquisitions and capital raisings and gained experience in advising industrial and resources companies on financial and strategic matters. From 2001 to 2003 he was an Executive Director of Goldman Sachs and Co, and from 1990 to 2001 he was employed by Credit Suisse First Boston in their Sydney and New York offices.
Mr. Sundich holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney and a Master of Commerce in Finance from the University of New South Wales. Mr. Sundich was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 22 July 2005 and his appointment was ratified at the 2005 AGM.
Malcolm Plunkett
Non-Executive Director
Malcolm Plunkett has spent nearly four decades designing and manufacturing industrial and scientific electronic devices for medical industries. Mr. Plunkett was appointed Vice President of Advanced Research in late June 2005 to help identify new product development opportunities, and today plays a significent role in directing the company's growth into new markets.
Mr. Plunkett has worked at Ellex for 12 years in various engineering roles. Among his accomplishments was directing the development of the selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) laser technology platform, which has helped Ellex assume a leading position in the glaucoma market. He has also been instrumental in helping Ellex secure regulatory and IP approval in many major markets, including the United States and Japan. More recently, Mr. Plunkett has led the Ellex 2RT (Retina Regeneration Therapy) program, becoming heavily involved with clinical trials and ongoing laboratory experimentation.
Giuseppe Canala
Non-Executive Director / Company Secretary
Giuseppe Canala is an experienced company director with a professional engineering and economics background. he currently serves as the Managing Director of Seghetti Estates Pty. Ltd., a private investment company. As an original co-founder of Ellex, Mr. Canala has served the company in a broad range of management roles, including Director of Engineering, Director of Operations, and Managing Director. He also served as Chairman from 1990 to 2001.
Mr. Canala has been involved as a director, manager and investor in a range of laser companies including Laserex Technologies, a developer and manufacturer of gas laser and semiconductor laser products; and Laserex Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of laser products for the IT, medical and vetinary markets. Prior to first joining Ellex, Mr. Canala worked in the USA as a manufacturing engineer with CGR Medical Corp., producing medical X-Ray imaging equipment; and as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager with SAFT America Inc., a military contractor. Mr. Canala has a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from the University of Adelaide and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Economics from La Trobe University, Melbourne Australia.
John Marshall
Non-Executive Director
Professor John Marshall is an internationally recognized expert on laser and light bio-effects in the field of ophthalmology. He is currently Frost Professor of Ophthalmology at the Rayne Institute and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, University of London. Professor Marshall is also the Chairman of Ellex’s Medical Advisory Board.
Professor Marshall is the co-inventor of the world’s first diode laser for ophthalmology and the inventor of excimer laser technology for refractive surgery. During the past thirty years, his research has shed light on the mechanism underlying age-related, diabetic and inherited retinal disease, and on the development of lasers for use in ophthalmic diagnosis and surgery.
