ATLANTA — Six-month results of the study of the Ellex 2RT show the laser is safe and effective in the treatment of diabetic macular edema secondary to diabetic retinopathy, according to a press release here.

"Currently, this is the mildest laser therapy to be tested in a clinical setting which has demonstrated a selective and therapeutic effect on the retinal pigment epithelium," John Marshall, PhD, FRCOphth, FRCPath, said in a press release here at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting.

At 6 months, 46% of patients in the study showed a 5% decrease in central macular thickness and 43% of patients showed a two or more line increase in visual acuity, according to the release.
